Area Light Explorer

Members:

Would you be interested in contibuting to a forum here on Area Light where you list your specialty area or life experience?

This could be professional, hobby, or something you believe you could give helpful advice to others about.

Could you answer questions about your specialty or direct others to a place or site that could answer their questions?

This would be a great way to share what we know, and learn from other members what we would like to learn.

This has the potential to be a great information, referral group for members.

Note: This forum was suggested in another discussion titled, "Life Experience". As a courtesy to one of our valued members, we have gone ahead and created it. The basic idea of this forum is to create a resource directory/ and specialty specific Q&A. If you would like to talk about the subject of sharing experience in general, let us invite you to join the discussion on our group Area Light Home.

Here's a hobby of mine I don't mind sharing- how I train for soccer. So let's start with an example session.

Alot of people don't realize the physiology of standing and balance. I can take someone's outstretched arm and incrementally increase the extention to demonstrate the point. In this example the person should be willing and relaxed. The exercise is to see how far the arm needs to be extended until the person becomes off balance. what I have found, is people are usually surprised when they reach that point. It's surprising because simply standing and keeping balance implies a certain degree of learned assumption.

You normally don't think about how the arm connects to the shoulder, how the shoulder works with the collar bone/ shoulder blades, spine, hips, and legs. Generally, you shouldn't have to think about it. Neither should a centiped think too much about how it can coordinate a hundred legs. When everything is aligned with gravity in a natural position, most people don't have any problem with it. However, as you extend your arm, the support structure you normally use distributes body weight mechanically and eventually to a single fulcrum point in the spine. You might remain standing and in balance while this force builds up to 95% in one spot and not even really acknowledge any difference.

When you get to the "tipping point", your support structure is only the slightest movement away from losing complete integrity. This excercise, by the way, is great to become familiarized with that tipping point.

In my training, you get inder someone's body mechanics just enough so part of their support structure is being carried by you without them noticing it. It doesn't really matter so much where they contact you as long as your mechanics are situated more soundly than theirs. So if someone puts their hand on my shoulder, for example, I can step or lean away and make the slightest adjustment to their balance. Do this in just the right way and that person can literally tip over, trip on their own legs, and fall over right before you.

In soccer camps, a lot of emphasis is sometimes put into dirty play such as grabbing someone's shirt. If this doesn't mess with them mentally, it certainly can make that slightest of difference in their balance to give you an edge. In my training, this is unnecessary and can even be used to my advantage if someone tries it on me. I want to train to the point where when I engage an opponent, the movements I make interrupt the integrity of their natural alignment. When I know I have someone lined up or extended to their tipping point, this is when I want to make my move. Either they lose ground and time by recovering to a solid base to move, or they follow me and are surprised as they lose their footing, trip on themselves, or essentially can't make the move they thought they could.

To really practice this excercise, a great drill is to turn your back into your opponent as if you are shielding the ball. This is done a lot in soccer and other sports as well. Naturally, this is where a lot of the ancillary contact is allowed where someone can put their hand on you as they try to reach around. some players can even push or pull you just enough to not get the advantage while not getting noticed/ called. I like to slow it down in training and single out a specific instance or position. Focus on the dynamics of that position and work with a partner to find the riding behaviors, extention structures, and tipping points.

I often have no partner so do this alone. Sometimes it is a matter of knowing your range in relation to another's. the more you study your own mechanics the more you will gain a vocabulary for working with it and be able to have conversations with it in context.

O.K. thanks!

These comments are almost 3 months old, did this group not take off?? apparently not. In case it does revive the experience/knowledge I would like to offer would be virtual assistance and Law of Attraction.

I have been studying both for some time now and feel I have a strong grasp of both.

Hi Marie,

Area Light as a whole is still in a move in and set up phase. Nothing is taking off yet! Having this forum will be a great addition for other members who join the community. We set it up for a member who has been busy offsite. However, the integrity of the idea still stands. Please repost with more information about your personal interest areas in the context of being able to offer them for the benefit of other members. Then, the thread will function as a useful directory of resources and you can message a member directly or on their comment wall with your inquiries.

Overall, I liked the personal hobby/ life experience aspect of the member's suggestion. We are setting up some more constructive avenues for professional and business interests. I would certainly engage you significantly on both of your interests from Law of Attraction to Virtual Assisting. So please feel free to set up your own forum or group etc. Also, we have been setting up personal discussions to showcase each member in our group Coffee With The Oracle. There should be one with your name on it!

To summarize the resource listing on this thread so far, it appears we have gardening tips, rare search resources, creative soccer training, virtual assisting, and Law of Attraction expertise. Pretty neat start!

Anthony
