Something you don't hear around as much these days- not like I recall back in the 80's! U.S.A! So what is there to compete with other countries the we both feel pashionately about? Not much comes to mind. You've got things going on but I think the one thing that other countries feel most pashionate about is simply a battle we choose not to pick- because we hurt. Now we almost handled ourselves well a couple World Cups ago and this helped infuse American Soccer to where it's at today. However, can you imagine what winning- and winning in dramatic fashion would do for the sport here? I can. When Americans pull together with a national spirit and around a sport it is something I think that can be heard around the world. Want crazy fans? Nothing like what we have here. Want big time events? We know how to throw a party. Want athletes? I think we have the pool to draw from. Want superstars? Well we love our superstars.

For those of you who don't know, all I want to do is play soccer- that's the whole purpose of this site, all my professional and organizational goals- all means to ends. Sure it's impossible. That's what they say about the the U.S. ever being the best at soccer. I don't want to be the "effect". I want to be the "cause".

Best,
Anthony - U.S.A!!!

I caught a bit of a showing on T.V. for Galaxy and some other team. I guess they were both out of the playoff competition. Maybe, I'm just completely out of touch for not having cable. You would think a serious league initiative would find some way to get coverage on prime time national channels. I think I've noticed maybe one or two games over the last couple years. I can't stand leagues that aim first at the cable options. You want broad exposure. People with cable still ahve and see the regular channels too.

Anyways, these announcers were plain boring. I got the feeling they must have been bored. There wasn't much exciting about the game. Now for a sport whose U.S. criticism would be this isn't an exciting game, this is not how you want to be presenting it at any level at this stage in the game. With your insiders for a player vet and your typical refined sportscaster, I was just getting sick! Not that these guys weren't cool. I enjoyed the conversations and think in combination with my given appreciation/ passion for the game enjoyed it- barely. Nothin close to how the game should be presented.

I was just reflecting on something I had noted about UFC and the upcoming fighting industry. What you here are these periodic events with the UFC, the reality show on SPIKE, all kinds of start ups and internet exposures. Soccer has the potential to be at least as exciting. Let's get some folks putting an edge into the productions now,,,c'mon! One of the commentaries I was watching about the competition emerging in the cage fighting market was the disparity in production values. Some of these events look like they are shot in a barn and you can barely see the fighters in the poor lighting, audio/ video quality, and the on air talent just doesn't cut it. However, if you watch UFC, or the CBS Elite XC/ Showtime, or a few of the others- the production quality shows and you've got some entertainment. We need some WWE in this &%$#! Let's have player profiles. Forget the euro twists and the slick haired Italian prestige. There's nothing like an American- whether player, fan, announcer- on adreniline. Let's get it done folks!

If you don't...then I will.

Best,

Anthony

Holy Moly! USA just upset Italy in the CONCACAF CUP! I'm totally stoked! We face Brazil for the second time in the tournament for the final on Sunday. However, today's match- a 2-0 victory over the world's number 1 team...35 games unbeaten/ 12 game win streak- is already being compared to the greatest victories in U.S. history! We are now gauranteed second place if not better, the farthest we have ever gone in the tournament. It's a terrific showing for the U.S. who had to fight back from two losses early to both Italy and Brazil to make it to the semi-final against Spain.

I caught the replay on ESPN360.com and loved the media interface. Will try topost a link here, but does not appear embeddable, and does require a safe download for their player. Watch the complete match!

Best,

Anthony
