Area Light Explorer

One thing people may not know about me is I am working on a variety of business projects including some interests in American Soccer. I decided to set up a Ning for most of the major components and realized I could not make over 10 networks. So I decided to sacrifice this one for the benefit of everybody and set up my project in this group. if my goal is to play soccer on my terms, then I must necessarily look for others who want to support me- either financially and morally, or just morally.

I'm also thinking we can perhaps put together our own team, franchise, league, and compete at the highest levels. Beyond this, I am open to Area Light becoming a reference to anyone interested in soccer and interested in purchasing soccer related products and services.

So this should be interesting, to say the least.

Something to note...I have this feeling soccer is a sleeping giant in America. It's starting to get bigger but nothing close to where it will eventually be. Even with all the investment going into it out there now, the ROI potential is astronomical. We're at the tip of the iceburg...and it sure is lonely up here!

I hope your right but the level of play in Europe is still leagues above us. I love watching soccer but i still find myself trying to find a Euro match over an American match.

Yeah, agreed. At the same time, this reminds me of the American Hockey team that was made famous in the Olympics. Remember the movie and the saying, "Who do you play for?" Something that stood out to me was the story of how the coach decided to integrate concepts in sports Americans are familiar with including concepts in cohesion and creativity that had previously been unexplored. I have it in mind to do the same thing in Soccer. I've actually spent the last ten years drawing up what is essentially a scribbled playbook- an entirely new methodology or system of intelligent risk taking I call centerplay. I've actually put into play a lot of concepts you find in football. Conventional play focusses on lateral development to spread out and cut through defense. What I want to do is challenge directly the center line, make aggressive moves, use timing patterns, and have a series of collective movements built around this risk. Just like in football, you can draw in a defense then you can go to your play action and passing game. I like the idea of putting a pass over someone's outside shoulder- instead of catching it maybe they run with it in stride. That's just the tip of the iceburg for what I want to do.

Today I was putting a lot of work into my own personal business lines for Nascent Dynamics ( ). One of them being the soccer component. It's a long and complicated vision I am unwinding as I go. The nuts and bolts of it are I had intended to deicate a social networking community around my soccer interests and decided to sacrifice that for Area Light. The reason is, in part, due to the fact my business lines are all very personal interest oriented and not for everybody. Area Light is for everybody. So I decided that I would build the soccer component within Area Light just like any other user might build some work on their own interests and projects. This is probably the last goal I materialize out of all my projects. As a personal vision, it's also where they all start. So setting myself to begin at the end, I'm hoping to see this all come full circle someday. The other aspect you might notice is how Area Light canvasses a range of interests from personal, professional, and organizational. So to does my range of interests in soccer.

On one level I see just enjoying and engaging soccer from a personal pleasure perspective. We can talk about enjoying the sport or I can begin working on presenting my thoughts on how to play. On another level we can get into the professional element. There are a range of soccer professions to look at from playing to coaching and so on. I'm inclined to playing but I can also see coaching someday. If you get a chance, check out soccerinteractive.com- there's a social network with a pretty good focus on the professional element. Finally, there is the matter of the soccer industry. In particular, the U.S. soccer industry. With the national team getting some recongition and the movement in MLS, there is a big push to tap into the big industry of soccer here in America. It's actually rather still up in the air.

What I mean by the current state of the sport is it could grow or it could decline. Chances are it is going to continue to grow- just nowhere at the pace my vision has for it! When you look around at the leagues, teams, and underlying culture- it's a positive movement going on. However, it's still a living/ breathing thing. There is, for instance, a real risk the industry could suffer cataclysmicly due to the economic situation we are now facing. They were having a tough time even when the economy seemed good. I also compare the league ownership to much of what you might have seen in other sports such as basketball, hockey, or even some of these football spinoffs they've had. If you are not baseball or football in America, you are going to find yourselves a sport that could live or die on the merits of ownership and financial backing. Despite a relatively dubious production value, at least we're not struggling through scandals and controversy right now. The quality of play seems to be picking up too.

Either way, whether I end up being a part of the system or reinventing it anew, I like to think big. What would it take to organize your own league? My question is even more sophisticated in what would it take to organize American soccer to my vision and standards? I know that's hard to fathom. So is the fact this is my underlying drive for this network! However, as the site grows, so too does the possibility of achieving my goals.

Best,

Anthony

Well check out the latest video I posted on the MAIN page. Or you can YouTube it. It's Adidas' Celebrate Originality" 60 year tribute commercial. This is what American Soccer needs. We get so grossed up in t.v. sports, we forget of the simple fun of going out to an exciting event...a party.

I'm not kidding either. Take a look at the UFC. How many times have you heard some guy say he's headed out to an afterparty? Soccer can be way more of a local pub thing anyway. I'm seriously tempted to contact Sierra Nevada Brewery here in Chico and see if they'd sponsor my league. We could have the afterparties at their house! Chico's long been known as a party town. We've got a University, but things have changed in a way. We've also got an awesome local culture. I bet I could make it a win win for everybody.

So you saw Beckham in there, right? American Soccer definately needs star power. How about you guys make me a soccer star and then you can all come out and party with me?! I mean, I might actually pay to go to a party with celebrities. Who needs tabloids! Why not decide for yourself whether or not you like somebody. We could be sure to all have a good time. There are always those who tend to bring things down. Fortunately, our parties have sports to lay it down on. So if you want to toe the line, then step on the field of battle!

To get this thing going grass roots enough the party could be at anyone's house, then I think we would need some serious sports agent and marketing activities going on. Once again, why do I do all this? The answer is simple...so i can make enough money to focus on soccer full-time.

Where's the party? It right here. Also, you can chat with me most Fridays 7 to 8 p.m. pacific. Wouldn't that be something else if you could chat with your star soccer player the day before a big game?

Right on, Peace!

I know this might sound crazy, but if I am going to be the CEO for Area Light, then I want it to be awesome. We are going to form a private soccer league. Now, there will be an Area Light team.

There will be something for everybody to do. For one, the basic end-user can come enjoy the game through Area Light. The professional user can come in and be the service infrastructure of the business. I'm interested to know what you could offer. We have a group concept for the project already initiated. We can do matches by geographic location. We can also do it by social network. However, the league lights would go to us. Area Light could represent a world of online services to its members. The soccer can be an attractor. It has great ROI potential. Plus, The international reach could represent significant exports. SO be sure to line up the best soccer product distributors.

I'm a big believer in credit going where credit is due. Be very good at what you do, show the benefit/ profit in whatever it is you do, and bill directly. Just keep in mind, I hold the integrity of Area Light on my shoulders. So I reserve the right to be advised of the proposal, have final authority on it, negotiate a margin for Area Light with all rights, and distribute such compensations at my full discretion. That means people can offer their services. If it means end-users are extremely satisfied, their expectations are impressively exceeded, and they want to pay for more, then I am going to give permissions to work with me.

Not that I want to grow a big head over it. This is a player's environment. It's a fan's environment. All I ask is it be completely awesome for everybody. I also reserve the right to play or be a fan. I also reserve the right to do these all at the same time I'm running the organization. I'll have you know I've set my personal income at 50K per year in all of this. I also have the obligations of my other business lines. In that, I am sure there will be a margin between Area Light and it's constituents that is in contention. I am open to formal arguments that justify this margin going elsewhere than my business interests. I also expect I will be able to present my decision in an argument for why they are deserved by me. Ultimately, though, the big attractions will be presenting a quality product and service suite to our outstanding standards. For that, we will keep the prices to end-users attractive, the compensations to our professionals generous, and leverage our resources to increase savings or profits where possible.

That's it for now!

Best,

Anthony

Currently, I am interested in meeting with people who can help me put on soccer event productions- including all online features. If I haven't mentioned it yet, I believe we could do the presentations through Area Light. I'm careful not to over emphasize soccer in the community. It needs to be for everyone and I think you have to assume you are appealing to a market that may not even know they are interested in soccer. MLS and certain online sources are doing a pretty good job with productions. However, when I see that I find a lot lacking in the passion and vision I have for the sport. What I would like to do is create a "product" that lives up to my standards. I want to create the events I want to see and be a part of- something very impressive to even those people who never watched soccer. To do this, we'd need great production quality.

This doesn't necessarily mean we need tons of money. In the beginning, we could certainly play off the idea of an emergent underground- people who came together to organize and collaborate on a project from what they already have such as video cameras and computers. The most important thing to me is the sense of exciting community. American Soccer deserves it's own niche. I am not so impressed (yet) by the niche that is being carved out. I think a bit of the detraction is the American perspective of what is Euro and what is American. Too much stereo-typing. Too many people fixated on Euro Soccer. We don't need to be Italian! Too many people focussed on the American Soccer Mom. This is not your mother's oatmeal! Let's go back to the drawing boards and consider what we want from the perspective of the passionate American, all that makes this country awesome and exciting, and actually those aspects where we naturally relate to europeans.

In terms of production- my vision starts small but goes huge. I also have in mind completely redefining the way we present soccer. I'm seeing the visual technology coming around with the likes of what Microsoft is doing. So i see doing things like putting cameras on the players and feeding into 3D virtual reality and much much more. Just so you know- i guess that's part of why I could qualify calling myself an imagineer. It is a field for virtual reality presentations. Also, there's no mistake to calling this site Area Light. If you ever watched football and saw the yellow first down lines on your t.v. screen or watched a hockey game with the tracer on it...that is the tip of the iceberg for what I want to do. I have seen some graphic work done on Telemundo where the field becomes a commercial- at least on your screen. We've got a great big green backdrop for projecting on. The same technology that is used for weather forecasting shows could be reversed to project pictures on the field people there could actually see.

So to start, I think we're going to need to network in all kinds of people from all kinds of fields to really put together some awesome productions. We can start small and simple. However, what i am really talking about is creating a business enterprise. Why? Well I guess you have to understand the nature of my vision and imagination. I see the possibility and I'm compelled to materialize it until it is really happening.

Best,

Anthony

I've been having a bit of an interesting discussion with someone about developing an annual soccer training program. The idea is to have a competition and aggregate training information for what people are doing, what works for them, and perhaps what is best for winning results. Now this alignes a bit with what I want to do with Area Light as an enterprise. It's a challenge because I've been careful not to define this network as soccer oriented. This is just one interest. However, if I have it my way, American Soccer could become one of the most exciting and successful groups out there. Sure you might find the stadium is dynamic as a conferencing establishment and multi-functional to apply to different sports and activities. However, to show it all off once set up I'm going to use soccer!

Presently, I have decided to make a group called Nascent Dynamics ( ) The Quickening. That is a private venture activity that I am setting up for my business and requires an application process for those interested in joining.

What I am going to do here with this thread is tie the project into my American Soccer interests, and discuss it in general with those who make it through the selection process.

Best,

Anthony
