Area Light Explorer

Here we go!

We have been doing a series of explorations both online and in our local community. We have run into so many interesting things and people, yet have not organized any of our notes yet. We had thought about doing a single thread for each subject or site we visitted, and then we realized the full complexity of what we found and all the tangients we might take could not be satisfactorily organized this way. So here we go starting over. To start, we want to direct your attention to our wiki that is not much more than a seed as we speak. http://arealight.wikidot.com You can also find a link that will open the Collective in a new window below our MAIN tab. We are going to make an attempt to begin listing everything we do in our exploration mode on this wiki. Organizing it is another matter we are covering on our group Holonic Organization. You are welcome to join us and contribute. Should be fun.

Plus we are going to be putting some special exploration activity into social networks on Ning. Check out the Ning Blog RSS feed below our group. We just may join some of these sites and create a bridge to Area Light. This will support our project of networking by social network. Maybe Area Light and the Area Light Collective are not of much interest now. However, we are certainly going to take a stab at making them special as we go. We hope to make Area Light an online social network of choice- perhaps the best in the world. So perhaps then these will be at the top of a lot of explorers' lists to look into!

Just got an e-mail from one of our members, Mari Torres. She's got a new show on blogtalkradio. www.blogtalkradio.com/maritorres. We're listening to her recent show discussing whether or not people are making money from doing business through online social networking. Pretty interesting subject we're interested in. There's a lot of hype driving online social networking for business. However, most of the "small businesses" you find out there are some form of marketing scheme. Mari has some interesting background she talks about in traditional marketing media such as radio and movies. Her venture in to online business, networking, etc carries a very interesting experience with attention to what works and what is being suggested. She's really driving the point a lot of people marketing through social networking are defeating the purpose by doing it the wrong way, i.e pushing themselves, cold selling, and blind marketing. We recommend looking into it...listening to it.

Pretty interesting to discover blog talk radio. We like the idea we can write and multitask with listening at the same time. You can also call in to the shows and register to leave comments on the radio show topics.

Hey Anthony thank you so much for featuring this show. I like blog talk radio because one could listen while still working. I am a video junkie so I used to have a weekly webcast but I find that blogtalk is a little more convenient for people, I also like the fact that you could listen to an archive show.

I think that there are a few of us out here trying to inspire others to work with people online as if they were working face to face. I am confident that the message will get around and stick at some point.

I am very proud to be a part of what you are doing here.

Thank you very much Mari,

One of the things I want to explore is the eliteteam social network you are building. I've got an idea to build bridges between other social networks to Area Light. Part of this idea is setting up as Area Light Explorer rather than myself. I haven't worked out all the details and I'm not sure this would be a good fit with your intentions for membership. Plus, I just may prefer to join as myself in your case. We can discuss that if you like. I've also taken a stab at listing your show on the new Area Light Collective (see subtab below MAIN). The challenge is figuring out just how to index it as an easily referenced resource for members. You might like to work with me on that. The project is being laid out in our group Holonic Organization. Finally, I'd like to work with you to create a group or two for your radio show and for your social network. The outpost concept would give members and other casual explorers surfing Area Light a chance to check out what you are doing and discuss it here. Just let me know if you are interested and we can discuss that too.

As far as Area Light Explorer, I'm hoping to evolve a member driven thread that touches on anything and everything we're encountering and thinking about. You are welcome to start your own thread- I recommend "Mari Torres Explores". Or you can certainly comment with me on the Area Light Explores thread. Blog Talk Radio is an interesting phenomena. I'm interested in exploring it in greater detail, but I'm not prepared to get too involved with it right away. I noticed another one of our members, Etienne, has a show pertaining to safe computing. I'm wondering if the service is free and just what you need to do to get your own show. Seems like you've put some preparation behind it and because you mentioned it a while ago I was thinking you might have to go through an application process to be accepted.

I picked up from your show you are familiar with online radio media outside this service. I knew you had radio experience, but not in that category. I just happen to be working part time for a local radio company. I've got an insider's perspective to the media advertising business as well as the online radio media. So I certainly would think we could have some great conversations on the subject here and perhaps eventually create some business opportunities out of it. I agree, the social networking technology is perhaps a step ahead of the curve. It's just getting started and most people are not really in tune with it nor understand how to best make it work for them in the modern business environment. The technology alone is essentially empty. It's how you use it with your business savvy, best business practices, and understanding of emerging service dynamics that makes the difference. It really should catch on at some point- especially for those who are representing it right.

I thought sharing about your show "That's My Word" a rich resource for those members of my network who are following some of my transparent developments, hope to do something similar for themselves, or just want to enjoy something interesting they might not otherwise have found out about. Thanks!

I've been checking out the Ning networks for a cools soccer site. I was pleased to find Soccer Interactive. This is a professionally constructed site that seems to focus on coaches at various levels. soccerinteractive.com is actually a business concept that might be offering some innovative training technologies. I look forward to exploring it in greater detail. Part of what I like is the incorporation of the Ning platform as a community extention of the business/ main site. The administrators were very welcoming and I got some nice feedback off some of the forum/ group contributions I posted. As far as my personal interst of soccer goes, I'm going to plug this in to the Area Light Collective reference and invite others interested in soccer to look into it. I might have to index this in professional as well because you get an insight into soccer coaching and relative professions such as physical trainers, sports psychology, etc. I can also see indexing it on the organizational level because of the business concept and some insights into the American soccer industry. Cool stuff in my book.

Anthony sometimes I think that your in my head we definitely need to discuss somethings, We are extremely aligned and I think that we both understand that we will make much more of an impact and effective change if we work togther and we both have such a brain that we are able to do this without compromising out original individual intention.

Thank you for the compliment on my preparedness on my show I appreciate that. Blogtalk radio is FREE and it is super simple and it is a platform than can be very lucrative and beneficial to your marketing efforts, there are stats for every thing, your live listeners are recorded, archived listeners and live callers so imagine the damage that can be done if we utilize the shows to sell ad space and mentions as well as promote our own ventures all I could say is incredible! I got it all planned out Anthony because I will be starting a weekend live video broadcast to have that angle too. I want to share the benefits of utilizing the Mogulus video platform. I have those widgets set up on various sites so that when I go live I will be broadcasting on all of the sites that the widgets are on, I will have an audience in various networks instead of just one like ustream.

I am getting sleepy so I probably sound like I'm rambling but I am just so excited at the possibilities and how magical it is that we are experiencing this strong moment at the same time. It is quite difficult to find the ones who get it and when we do encounter those people who do it really is an awesome feeling.

There is a shift happening ladies and gentlemen and those that are diligent to their passion will reap the rewards of their labor.

Okay, Now I'm going to bed!

That's great Mari, and I think youd deserve to feel awesome. You are, of course, welcome to embed your audio and video segments here on Area Light. If you can think of a theme that represents what you are doing, then I hope you create a group here for it and transmit your content from there. Let's take this conversation onto another more appropriate thread/ location. I have been looking forward to working with you and discussing some projects over time. Your plan to include ads for your shows sounds great. I took a look at a few of the ads that are generated here for professional social networking and saw some interesting sites. I wasn't really impressed by any in particular. A lot of the ideas are being hit on, but I think on a superficial commercial level. It's not really the technology or even the idea that makes something a hot app or content with gravitational pull. I think what you are doing, and hopefully me too in my own way, is higher grade. So a focus on quality and authenticity will certainly be distinguishers as people come online with us. Keep up the great work and I will be exploring some of these sites I referred to here as we go along. I've got a variety of themed group discussions here to break down analyses and discuss networking projects. You can join me on one or we can create one around what you or you and I want.

Speaking of quality, I was looking into a site metric generator, http://www.quantcast.com. Ning provides some option for us to choose our traffic measurement generator/ hosts. That's good for those who intend to promote their traffic for the utility of end-users or for advertisers. Quantcast looks like a professional service and I believe I might have met the CEO on another network. I'll have to look back into my contacts. Yes, I hope to make Area Light an online social network of choice. However, quantity is not my primary determinant of value. Perhaps, as you mentioned in your talk show, quality and a simple matter of making money by what you do might be more important to me. I'll still be taking a closer look at Quantcast because the metrics they are highlighting imply various intelligent aspects of success for sites and might include demographic specifics etc. Fairly interesting phenomena given typical broadcast markets are usually divided by programming interest over local and national markets.

FYI, the local stations I work for have online streaming media in conjunction with app loaded user interfaces/ websites. It's interesting to see how the dynamics are changing with respect to their marketing strategies. I actually listen to one of the stations and was surprised when they use a very "hoaky" generic filler in place of ad space. It seems, traditional national advertisers are making specific conditions to not stream their ads and local markets have yet to take on to it. So why put the cheesy filler then rather than plug the station? I guess this has something to do with making a point the ad space is available. So I think exploring blogtalkradio should be interesting from the perspective of your project and our industry experience.

Just checked out www.expertceo.com off the ads here on Area Light. Looks like a fairly professional web resource. You can become a resource to CEO's offering your products or services. I might like to be able to offer consulting services for instance. That looked free, but did require an application. I could also join as I am a CEO/ Entrepreneur (so to speak!). There was the sell- $349 for an annual membership. O.K. so that is where I clicked away. Everybody has some kind of catch. It's understandable to charge for a service and a proprietary platform. I didn't see nor try to look too hard to see what was inside from that point. It didn't look "that" impressive to me. The charge also serve the feature of limiting pretenders to join. The CEO membership also requires a scrutinized application. Here's the thing though, why do I want to pay access to a private club of CEO's- especially when I don't know who is really in there? Also, the social networking can be done for free- such as here on Area Light. If CEO's want, they can create a private social network. I'll be happy to offer a screening service and do the work. So I liked the promise of the CEO Business Network. I just think I can do it better myself- for FREE! I may take another look into it at some point. Perhaps joining as a resource is free and I might actually be both surprised at what I find and able to pick up some consulting projects on the side.

Hi there! Time to catch up on some social network exploration! One of our members, Jodie has a very nice community called United In Spirit Check it out at http://unitedinspirit.ning.com. The site is visually stimulating. A lot of graphic art showcasing esoteric, fantasy, or other spiritual themes. Interesting community with a diverse set of themes and topics of discussion. I think if you are into exploring dreams and the subconscious then you will find plenty of food for thought there. What stands apart to me as a member (under the guise of Area Light Explorer) is I get an occasional thought for the day e-mailed to me. Some words of wisdom, motivation, or inspiration. I think that speaks highly to the quality of atmosphere and community intended of the site. There is actually an administrative team supporting the project. They do a good job of keeping the concept in order and adding content of interest to their demographic interest group/ target markets. One of the Administrators, Cheryll, is very nice and often checks in with a greeting on my comment page. I believe she has her own network and there is another represented by X-RAY Your Soul. I think I will take it upon myself to explore those too since my experience at United in Spirit has been so positive. I recently received an invitation to a prayer group. Looking into that I can see there are members in that community who take supporting eachother spiritually as a worthwhile service. As I said, my impression is the site has an eclectic focus and I know many people will find themselves especially at home there, Great job Jodie! Check out Jodie's member page here on Area Light for more info and links if you like. Everytime I look at her profile pic I am fascinated by the stunning color and imagery. That's typical of what I think you will find on United in Spirit. Great stuff!

Hi there! We just joined Pierre Tavlitski's Art Auction Knowledge social network. http://artnings.ning.com Pierre is a member here on Area Light and has a lot of excellent thoughts about how to use Ning social networks. His site is a world art auction review we find fascinating.

In his introduction, he points out the price of art at auction that is exceptional in it category serves to help measure the relevant place that art has in civilization. Therefore, locating art at auction, analyzing and communicating about it together, is a cultural act and an effective means for each of us to open our minds to the fields we do not know. This is terrific! Pierre brings an eloquent sophistication to his commentary but still manages to keep it simplified to the basic point of what he is doing.

The network is certainly an art community for artists who can appreciate the deeper implications of work beyond aesthetic values alone. There are a variety of self-organized art groups represented from different themes that canvass a broad range of categories from ancient to modern, furniture to glass, and many more. Pierre performs a weekly exploration of art at auction, helps introduce and support discussions pertaining to works coming up for auction, and then posts results after the fact. Look into some of the forum discussions and you will certainly find an intellectual survey of art and a relevance to society you might normally only find on the Discovery or History Channel. Perhaps the added value in this is the connectivity to the current art movements, the cascading refinement of history, art, and society real-time, and the possibility of being involved directly or indirectly through participation in this well organized social network.

Congratulations to Pierre on this terrific concept! Pierre's generous open environment is a lead in to a far broader world of art related social networks. Check out his profile page where he gladly shares links to other networks created by his members. We sure will and we plan to explore these with excitement. Pierre is also active with several discussions here on Area Light about social networking on Ning. Check out our group Area Light Home or join him for an ongoing discussion featuring him on Coffee With The Oracle.

Hi there,

Today we're looking at a social network on Ning that's just getting started. Stephane Dube is the inventor of a self-cleaning window system and he's using social networking to get the word out and hopefully find some investors. What sets Stephane apart is his talent for bringing people together with a high energy. Check out Phenomenal Business Peoples www.phenomenalbusinesspeoples.ning.com. Don't let the language barrier stop you from enjoying some outstanding social networking activity. Started within the last few days of this article, this French Canadian is bound to inspire an influx of motivating networking. We've watched him on other social networks start groups that quickly grew into the hundreds. Don't believe us? Just watch!

Also, we're digging his music player. We've been thinking about incorporating music here. Phenomenal Business Peoples hits you right a way with Rihanna's "Please Don't Stop The Music". Right on! Makes us want to get out on the feild and train for soccer. At the least, it's a great tune to kick off some high-energy social networking. Stephane's cool too. He didn't mind us setting up and linking in Area Light. Even though our concepts are parallel in a lot of ways, chances are Stephane's approach to social networking is creative in different ways and perhaps more exciting to more people. Certainly worth exploring in our book.
