Area Light Explorer

Welcome to another segment of Area Light Explores. Today, I am revisiting one of my favorite networks, WORLD AUCTION http://artnings.ning.com.

This is a site I can certainly enjoy on a personal level. I have terrific interest in art, but am also quite interested in art at auction. Pierre, the site creator provides his social network with good taste, and he engages through Area Light on some occassions. I like the way he thinks, particularly with regard to social networking. I think it is obvious that he works to provide a service, and his courtesy extends for the benefit of his members. I hardly ever get a solicitation to join some group or participate in some activity. He goes on and does his work anyway, where the members can explore to their satisfaction.

Today in fact, I received a message from Pierre encouraging his members to comment on their most memorable art auctions of the past, and I think that is something that I actually experienced on the site. Area Light Explorer happens to be set up as a profile on that network. If I do anything on that site, I just might report on it here.

On a professional level, I think you might look at Pierre's work as an organizational model. He is very organized with the site theme, arrangement, and content. He has a defined purpose to which he follows through on and takes care that it is delivered to the intended end. Perhaps if you were a Ning network administration professional, you could benefit at the least upon study of WORLD AUCTION. I also think there are professional skillsets worth exploring in the realm of valuation, negotiation, and auctions as they pertain to modern concepts of market transactions. In that, I think you might also find alot of relevant insights into investment banking.

Organizationally, WORLD AUCTION is probably a high end specialized networking community. It is not for everybody. It is tailored to a target niche, and promotes primarily the process of following art at auction as an intellectual stimulation, and a cultural event. I find it fascinating to consider how to market to a high end niche. I've seen too many people blow it. However, I think if you look at Pierre is doing from a business perspective, you would notice a lot of advanced refinements considerable for your own inventory.

I'm interested in following WORLD AUCTION, and the "satellite" Art Directory site he has set up. He exercises the same focus in concept for that site, providing a free directory resource and networking exchange. It's a hub people might go to and be satisfied, or a gateway to the principle network WORLD AUCTION. I also think there is some savvy there in having a hub site to bump people to who might not be suited for the parent activity. Certainly I think one could appreciate how he provides a class service for free, exercises discipline and rigor in his publishing, and balances innovation with brevity.

Another dynamic pertaining to Area Light Geographical Social Networking, I find the "WORLD" connotation very accurate for Pierre's communities. The interesting thing to me is that you have this world-wide universal interest in art. People and art from all aspects of life around the world and throughout history make the table on that community. Here on Area Light, I've played with the idea of featuring networking by geographic location as one of our main themes. I have also contemplated how I might tie in the world popular sport of soccer/ football as a unifying organizing idea bringing people from all over to gather in this community.

www.artnings.ning.com is a Ning social network I am greatful to know about. As the concept of Area Light Member Services evolves, I see providing a service to help optimize their social networking experience. In the course of our engagement with people, we might learn about their interests and preferences enough to recommend other networks. I am very confident referring people there will easily find what they are looking for as it may pertain to art, art at auction, and online social networking among art enthusiasts, artists, and art businesses throughout the Ning platform.

More to follow as I continue to explore www.artnings.ning.com . I consider it an ongoing exploration of personal interest, useful application to my own research and development, and an inightful resource into the particulars of modern social networking phenomena. Pierre may like to comment. This discussion is open to members who join Area Light Explorer. If you have experienced the social network for yourself, then we invite you to join in the discussion.

Best,

OK Anthony, thank you for this analysis.

I share this page now on my Twitter WORLDAUCTION page, for the benefit of both. The tweet will appear in a few minutes at the top line of the widget.
