Networking and Resources by Geographic Location

One of the primary concepts we have in mind for making Area Light an online social network of choice is to network by location. You can use your geographic location as something in common to share with others you meet online. You can also let people you know in your community there are interesting websites to look into just for being from wherever you are...such as Area Light!

Above, we are introducing the WikiSpot platform as a great way to collaboratively build an online resource about your community. Chico, CA is one of the first communities to start one. Check out www.chicowiki.org.

Area Light is a great compliment to these types of resources because of our broad themes, allowance to represent any interests including business, and our social networking platform that supports general interaction between members rather than a focus on content. We are not set up to build knowledge-bases. However, we are set up to help shed light on communities and useful resources as a service to our members.

In the absence of a group for your location, let us invite you to talk about your interest for one in your area here. We are at your service to help. We may set one up for you or create a location directory to refer new members when we greet them. Let us know what you think or simply take the initiative to start your own location group like NorCal or Montreal.

Hi there!

I'm heading over to work on Chicoplace, a Ning social network created for my home town in Chico. The network creator was kind enough to give me the keys. I'd like to get some help putting together this network and a series of location specific Nings with the same theme of "_______place". How about it?!

With the influx of new members joining from Nigeria, this would be an ideal candidate for the development of a Nigeria based geographic group on Area Light. While we want to have areas for the locations our members actually reside, there is an even more exciting prospect in setting up your own Ning site like we did for free with a focus on that place. Ideally, Area Light serves as a directory to geographic networking groups, and by extention, to geographic networking social networks.
