Area Light Explorer

Hey Pierre,

I've been thinking about how to organize the content on Area Light including members and their sites. I have four primary themes I think can be used on virtually any subject matter. So Area Light promotes networking by area of interest whether personal, professional, organizational, or geographic. Having played around with how tagging affects Ning Search and the workload complexities of creating lists, I decided to go with a wiki application.

I use wikidot which I think is perfect for making and sharing customized directories. Plus, you can choose to permit direct editting from your members. Cooperatives like this are popping up all over the place. I'm still playing around/ testing out the Area Light Collective. It's a subtab of MAIN and something I think will become a proprietary feature of networking between networks as part of a broader network theme. Perhaps we might work together on that.

Art Network Directory is another fabulous example of your work. So as we have a segment where we linked our review of your Art Auction Network. It would be neat to follow up with your latest project. The Area Light wiki would ideally be presented as an aspect of service to members on the network. If you don't mind, I'd like to experiment with setting something up for you as a BETA test of the idea.

Best,

Anthony

Hi Anthony !

Thank you for your reply.

ART NETWORK DIRECTORY is not a project. No major change will be done on it.

I wish it as simple as possible for the users and for myself, with no application out of the most usual Ning features. Applications are much time consuming when they fail.
Users come, they use the links on the main page, or they are doing without my control whatever they wish with the other features.
The only time I spend on it is to reply to requests for linking new networks, to check that no source of conflict has been made by members, and to broadcast a short edito when I feel that the visits are decreasing.

I was previously concerned on how to explain to members of WORLD AUCTION when their input does not meet the purpose of the network. Now I redirect them easily without blah blah to the ART NETWORK DIRECTORY. So my goal is already achieved.

My input in the discussion here is to show you and other Area Light members how easy it is to manage such a specialized directory network, whose added value for Ning users cannot be disputed. I am happy to view that many members are frequently revisiting the ART NETWORK DIRECTORY after they joined.

Friendly

Pierre

I think it's a fantastic idea and I am so impressed with the way you are using it. What I meant is I plan on setting up a directory feature and using my site in much the same way. Knowing that you have such a directory as a value add on your network is a great thing to promote, and something I want to feature to other members who join Area Light. Of course, you need not do anything other than what you do. I'm still working out my project. I can see how easy it is to do your way, so I will second that notion in my activities.

Best,

Anthony
