Area Light Explorer

Welcome to Area Light! My name is Anthony Reardon, and I am the creator of Area Light. This is a project I have been working on as a presentation of Nascent Dynamics ( ) Modern Business for the Modern Environment.

Let's get to know all about eachother! Meet me here for coffee any time you feel like talking. I will usually respond within 24 hours. I think accessibility, transparency, and currency are very important in the modern environment. Moreover, I think it is that much more important to find ways to be yourself, fulfill your ambitions, and even be a part of something world-class. So if that describes who you are, what you want to do, and what you're looking for in your online social networking experience, then please don't hesitate to network with me on those levels.

Best,

Anthony

That's great Alvin, I've been watching you move into Area Light and have been pleased with your interest. Neat music video. When people go onto this site, I do want them to feel wide open to possibilities for whatever it is they are excited about for social networking. So it's O.K. to express yourself and try things out. When you do anything from that mode, I am certain it adds value that will benefit others.

Another central theme is genuine networking rather than the superficial kinds of relationships you might find prevalent in other environments. You remind me somewhat of Paris Tompkins, the first member to join Area Light and the inspiration for Coffee With The Oracle discussions. I wanted to set up an essentially intimate conversation to highlight an individual on whatever points they were interested in. Every member deserves to be showcased. I've changed things around somehwhat since then. Let me recommend you start a discussion in this group called Coffee With Alvin and use that as your channel to present your conversational interests. I will certainly join you on that.

I am also a big believer in networking by geographic area so having an interest in connecting and promoting Nigeria sounds like a great idea. As far as I'm concerned, I created an online environment for everybody with the structure to build something great out of and the flexibility to be whatever people make it out to be. I did this for myself as an "end-user" so Coffee With Nascent Dynamics ( ) gives me an opportunity to have a personal channel about me.

So I have personal business interests that most members of Area Light have no idea about because I don't mention it often. When I spend my time looking into others and engaging them on their interests, I am most rewarded when the interest is returned and I can share my passions with them.

Best,

Anthony

Coffee implies a bit about your state of mind, doesn't it? I like waking up and getting into my mode with a nice cafeeine boost! When my mind starts working on that level, I want to capture my ideas and take steps to materialize them. It's nice to see a couple people getting into their modes and sharing here on the Coffee With The Oracle group on Area Light. For one, there is the prospect of featuring or showcasing the individual- whatever their interests and conversations that come out of it. For another, you might get a chance to "hitch-hike" off their mode of inspiration...whatever it is on their mind that catches your interest can be a great spark for whatever activity you are thinking about.

Lately Alvin has been promoting his Coffee With Alvin discussion which I think is great. I've jumped in and also stood aside a bit as others enter the conversation. Pierre is one who has made great use of his discussion and an interesting dynamic to see how he reacts to a third party entering the discussion...as intended by the public nature of the discussion.

I had some good coffee this morning, so thought I'd share here. Right now I'm working on the Area Light Explorer project.

QN: Next Big

Let's start with some attention to the Ads By Google. For those of you who don't know, I actually like having Ning feed ads onto my site. I think it ads value and more accurately represents the reality that anyone can start a social network like mine for free. It's something I've been exploring. I really like how the ads attempt to use an intelligent selection of advertisements that are more likely to be of interest to the end-user. The ads change from page to page and I think it depends much on key words and so on. If the Google Ads is picking up on those key words and listing sites that really pertain to your site, then I think you're heading in the right direction for effective SEO on your site.

Now, looking at my page and this page, I'm seeing the following:

Build a Social Network
Easily Build Your Social Network Site with PartnerUp. Learn More.
www.PartnerUp.com ... I've looked into these things and I usually find them lacking in that they are too focussed on their propriety. I wasn't sure if I'd explored this one before, so I looked into the Collective Master Index and realized I hadn't. One thing that catches my eye is the relevance to the idea of "building your own social network". You know you don't have to pay somebody to do this. Ning is producing the capacity for people and I don't think it is promoted to it's potential. So this is highly relevant to Area Light. The partnerup site is a worthy candidate for market/ industry research, and that is part of the idea of the Holonic Knowledge-Base element of the Area Light Collective.

Exclusive Ladies Group
Inspiration in Action! Try the Only Social Network for Empowered Women.
BraveHeartWomen.com ... No! That's not for me! I am not a woman, but you have to recognize the niche aspect of modern marketing. Focussing in on demographics such as women and catering to their preferences and interests is smart. I recently engaged Carole here on Area Light who does a lot for WAHM's which is Work-At-home-Mom's. Area Light is for everybody, so it's worth researching what we can do to support those interest groups.

Russians Unite
Russian-American social network. Look up friends, find new ones.
bomond.com ... That's interesting. My wife happens to be Russian and I find it interesting how they have an entirely parralel suite of sites and social networks that caters to their demographic. The have their own versions of web-based platforms such as classmates.com etc, many of which are followed by a .ru extension. Russians are very social by culture, so this exploration will be rich with insights into social networking I think. Plus, I'm gathering people on Area Light with a strong interest in networking by geographic location...which also extends to relating by culture.

Who's viewing your site?
Get amazing analytics & earn cash Introduced by Stephen Fry
visualdna.com ... I don't know about this. I hear of people paying others to post on their networks and that is attractive. I just think that implies some kind of catch. I recognize there is value in getting traffic to a site which turns into ad dollars. It only makes sense to feed some of that back to people and then you have a great idea, right? It misses the point though I think. It's better for people to want to go to your site voluntarily without an artificial incentive of payoff. I don't want my intelligence insulted...the reality is everyone wants to do what they can to become your home page and the interface you navigate the internet through. Area Light will be more about substance and that has to be the appeal. This will be interesting research.

Showcase your film
Join myProducer.tv and broadcast your film projects, get feedback
www.myProducer.tv/ ... quite interesting actually. I want to make movies!!! Recently i posted a home video improv here on Area Light encouraging people to get into muti-media production. So this sounds like an interesting site, but I'm skeptical in that this is proprietarily exclusive. Area Light could probably do the same thing for free. This exploration should afford me some opportunity to contemplate the media dynamic on site.

Much much more. On the Area Light Explorer group, I've got an RSS Feed from the Ning Blog which does a lot to canvass other networks. My project is to create some kind of online social networking magazine that people think-out-loud about the sites they explore. So I need to work on integrating the Ning Blog.

Also, on The Next Big Ning group I have set up, I have an interesting feed I found relatively randomly that really seems to feature a level of insight into social networking platforms at the level Ning operates on. There was a kind of team job description that really probably suites a developer class project we might want as part of Area Light. I also noted a social network focussed on office professionals which no less relates to the concept I'm developing for this community and my business. Certainly a worthy exploration for my own research and development, and I think a substantive asset and value that others might benefit from just by stopping by Area Light.

O.K., I'm off to work. Comments welcomed!

Best,

Anthony

Hi Alvin, I'm doing great- thanks!

Coffee With The Oracle was inspired by my first member, Paris Tompkins. You should stop by her Coffee With Paris discussion. I am sure you would enjoy it.

I personally have always enjoyed conversations over coffee with my friends, and this is a theme I think transfers perfectly for social networking. I also did my research and learned this is a common theme for hundreds of blogs, forums, and social networks. While Coffee With The Oracle is intended to be a featured interactive social networking concept, I recognize that the phrase is in the general domain.

I saw how you jumped on the idea and began using your discussion as a promotional interface to you and Area Light. I think that's a great idea. As with most of the concepts I employ here, your work is basically your own to use as you see fit. I encourage experimentation like that. In the broader scope of Area Light, the Coffee series will be what the members make of it. For our purposes, it is simply an activity that affords people an opportunity to showcase themselves and find interaction on topics of their interest. The featured personalities that decide to take part will add significant value to the organizational concept. However, the association with Area Light remains indirect.

Your idea for syndication is very interesting too. I have worked in media industries, and actually Mari Torres is pioneering some social network media outlets for "your chabnnels" etc, but those are part of her business model. I did a segment on Area Light Explorer awhile back featuring Laura MacKenzie's Traveler. Now there's a perfect example of having a themed segment showcasing a media personality/ brand, and getting sindication from major periodicals such as USA Today, etc. With the emergence of a stronger online media bias, and new concepts of interactive market engagement, there are quite real opportunities to build a venture out of your social networking activity.

One thing I have stood by since Paris joined is that I will work to support members that proactively support Area Light. I am happy to advise you on your ideas and interact with you to help keep your activities current and interesting. Somewhere down the line, this idea of yours fits within the scope of Area Light Member Services that I am developing. You can stand by and do your thing as I work that out. Or you can engage Area Light Member Services and see what we can do for you. I feel more comfortable walking people through a tour of the site and concept, so that way they know what we are doing and how to shape their activities to make the most benefit from it. Once that solid foundation of understanding and programs is covered, then we have the lead in to services we are providing to support interactive features, event scheduling, and promotional concepts.

In a nutshell, I think it is great what you are doing, and that you are doing it at your discretion/ convenience. The money you can make doing your thing needs to go to you. I will profit through traffic and site sponsorships eventually. I will also be formalizing some premium services to support members which will come at a fee. Fortunately, you benefit from your interaction with me for free, and the courtesy services I am designing for free are intended to reach a level of professionalism you would normally have to pay for. Finally, as another end-user here, I benefit from showcasing my brand of solutions. So keep the ideas flowing, and consider the reputation Area Light is looking to build for personal interaction, content/ media segments, and "better" social networking. We're right there "with you" on it.

Best,

Anthony

Hi there! Today I am popping in to reflect a little about this segment. I mean to set this up as a production and work on it in my office, but Area Light hasn't had much activity, and I am trying to remember this concept of freestyling as I present my business wherever I happen to be operating. So, some intelligent order to that is something I have been working on, and today I am running a session where I point people where to go to see me work. I did mention the Coffee with Nascent Dynamics ( ) segment in my main blog on www.nascentdynamics.spaces.live.com, but so far I have told everybody where I am going is my office to meet with my virtual assistant. I'm stepping a bit out of order here jumping to this discussion, but this is a "warm-up to work" type of activity anyway, and my coffee is just starting to hit me too!

I often like to come to Area Light as a break from my business, some particular mode, or to free myself from some self-imposed constraints I have set up. I think other people might enjoy some activity like that too. The difference between my blogging and these discussions, though, is that my most recent entry ends up at the back of a list here. I have a couple ideas to consider. One is redoing the main entry on this discussion and operating it as something I revise regularly with my newest posts. However, that might confuse the order of discussions that may occur here and I think you'd lose content. So the question is, would people get the idea and maybe, would I prefer to clean up the discussions to reflect only recent and active content? I can't disqualify those ideas, and I think that is something for me to reflect on more as I get to work designing the segment from my office.

Today, I just decided to run with what I have got. I reviewed my opening statement, and it really does O.K. to present the activity. Maybe i might make mention of how to find the most recent replies and so on in the opening statement. I might revise that anyway to separate the statements into more of a professionally looking or bulletted list. The other aspect I can consider too is integrating this activity with my live segment aspects. For instance, I might Twitter that I just had some coffee and point to this discussion link. It's possible I might be able to find the exact link to this entry via the recent activity list on the main Welcome page here too. Probably worth an experiment for my research and development purposes.

What I actually want to talk about today though is more personal I think. Here I am getting into mode to do some work, and I am necessarily trying to exercise some disciplined focus to get my work done. I also exercise this practice of going in and out of modes. Essentially, the obsession I have to succeed at an impressive standard rings my scrutiny as I consider the aspect of following through on a prescribed course and being myself to do my thing freely. In principle, I know you can concentrate longer and better at something if you take periodic breaks, especially if the activity is counter to whatever it is that energizes you. The interesting dynamic to meditate on is how do you maintain a high concentration in activities that drain your concentration. When I am "on-line" I know I can maintain focus on something whether producing some concentrate material or executing some task to a standard. Where my energy or focus fails in that, then I can say my body and mind is dictating to me I need to be in touch with my "off-line" motivations or adjust my activity so as to bring me back "on-line". Good stuff for some of my projects such as Nascent Dynamics ( ) Personal Consulting.

Then there is this matter of my personal life, and how I am balancing that with my professional life. Add a third dynamic in trying to balance an organizational life and I think Nascent Dynamics ( ) Personal Consulting really starts to tie in as a value between services I would want and the services I am offering. Area Light, for instance, is being redefined to optimize end-user experience on these levels with respect to online social networking. Certainly, what I am doing today is relevant to managing an online social networking presence with day to day personal responsibilities, concentration, and so on. So this discussion segment could really satisfy that for me as I share about the personal matters crossing my mind as I get ready for my day, and all the things I need to do on all those levels.

So let's see. Lot's going on. Kids just started school, my school is getting ready to get going. I just applied to a job at the local brewery as an Assistant Safety Director, and so on. These things all get me thinking about business too! Today is Friday, and that means some things for me as well. Might want to get done some chores before the weekend. I like cooking on Fridays, especially on the grill. I took out some chicken, and I think that would be a good staple for training. Tomorrow morning I have a soccer match and I want to be healed and ready to put out an improved effort. Anniversary is coming up. Only request so far, reasonable request anyway, is to play some guitar for her. Should I put some time aside to play it? There's a personal activity tied somewhat into my various goals, but one that has been on the backburner. If I could play a beautiful love song, that would be something. I'm also thinking of what I can do to really celebrate my marriage, show my appreciation to my wife, and make the event memorable. Right here is where it would be interesting to be talking to people about family life and perhaps neat ideas for what to do whether products and services to help me to my preferences online or locally. So more business ideas come to mind there too, but the meat of the matter is these are things that I really plan on doing regardless.

The soccer thing in particular is really special in moving me forward to materializing my dreams. I think, it's important for me to be successful in order to provide for my family and quality of personal life. I've made a special effort to tie in the drives I have, knowledge of my natural temperament, and awareness of modern business to try to make it all feasible. However, one of the neat things that ties into The Quickening segment here, is that special culture and networking that goes on at the field. It's really a neat kind of gathering, and part of the culture I am looking to facilitate- especially with thhose people I can network with on a personal level. I suppose much of this should be relegated to my virtual assistant to help me today.

Before I head out, besides Twittering people here, I might consider the live application of Area Light Chat. If I've got static content out here about this and that, wherever people happen on something I did, they might like to engage me on it through replies or chat. That form of communication is certainly relevant to the live aspects- transparency, accessibility, and currency. It Also pertains to the dynamic of operating in modes where personal conversations can occur for their own sake, or be integrated with professional and organizational discussion. The interesting dynamics there include the fact that chat fades from the documentation, and some people and discussion points may be better reserved for that kind of thing. Where interesting points come up, I might create some kind of weblog to help me account. That may be where I apply other activities where I get ideas down in certain categories etc.

O.K. then. Off to work. Let's see if I can find the link and Tweet it! I'll be heading over to the office then www.nascentdynamics.ning.com ...currently under construction!

Best,

Anthony

Good morning!

Well the coffee is good and I have just a few minutes before I head out to class. This morning I have intro to drama or something like that. I hope we get to do some theater, and not just observe. Anyways, that's an instant lead in to the entertainment segments I am integrating as an aspect of my company's online social media.

I see we have a new member interested in this group. I wonder, can I get her to appreciate the entertainment value in socializing with me? I think it would be entertaining to explore that member, but history has shown most people don't follow through with some of these comprehensive social networking activities I have set up. She seems intelligent enough to get it, and I think it might be interesting to see if she will join me for some coffee here on Area Light.

Anthony

Good morning!

Well I have about an hour this morning to focus on business before class and I'm sitting here sipping on a large ice mocha...light on the ice. I don't know, maybe I need to lay off the coffee soon since I am starting to really get into training for soccer! The thing is, since I quit chewing tobacco, am so worn down by my weekend soccer matches, and am preoccupied with school, finding a job, and household...it just sometimes feels flat when I want to be in that creative hot process mode for Nascent Dynamics ( ). The coffee at least helps me get into the mode fast, though without much time to act, and the nature of my organization still up in the air with research and development...I guess I could potentially be just spinning my wheels.

That's not the design and intent of this segment though. I've been putting a lot of thought and effort behind creating my live segment The Modern Business Mindset. This morning doing O.K. with Twitter and www.nascentdynamics.spaces.live.com . I'm also live on Area Light Chat for another half hour or so. Who cares? Well for one, I'm practicing the discipline of how I would operate as a business and online personality. Who knows what will happen with my online assets such as Ning or Microsoft Office Live Small Business as they are all free anyway. The thing that continues on will be myself, my vision, and my approach. So what I'm doing now is working it out and refining it down to a professional level skill.

I'm also becoming sort of an expert in many of the dynamics. Take this group/ discussion. Unless someone has opted to follow, which I doubt there is any who are active members at this point following, then the only notice this segment is going to get is llikely on the site's current activity log. I've been thinking about it a lot actually. If say I started a new discussion, then whoever has joined the group might receive an alert. So either using this ongoing discussion thread is a service in that it does not annoy people, or it is just not that useful because I am experimenting with an approach the Ning designers didn't have in mind when they set up the feature.

I just checked the feature controls and I don't see how I can get recent comments up at the top. So I am sort of orienting more and more to the blog segments where the newest commetns appear first. On the other hand, I'm not so sure I want every whoever to comment on those segments as they are proprietarily my own. This discussion was set up as a place where I don't really care where the conversation goes. I have it posted as a link on the main Welcome page and hopefully I could use something like this as a way of interacting with a single or group of people . One thing that is killing me right now is the field is skipping out of view as I type. So I think I'm going to bail now and head elsewhere.

Best,

Anthony
