Let's use Nigeria on Area Light as a resource to explore anything and everything Nigerian. We found this video on Youtube to be very interesting and certainly worthy as a conversation starter for this group. It's fascinating to consider the emergence of Nigeria as a place of business. What do you think?
Interesting links: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nigeria We were pleased to learn from some of our Nigerian members on Area Light that English is the national language. We would not have known that and think this is the type of information about places and people that can really help Area Light become a social network of choice.
According to Wikipedia: The number of languages currently estimated and catalogued in Nigeria is 521. This number includes 510 living languages, two second languages without native speakers and nine extinct languages. In some areas of Nigeria, ethnic groups speak more than one language. The official language of Nigeria, English, was chosen to facilitate the cultural and linguistic unity of the country. The choice of English as the official language was partially related to the fact that a part of the Nigerian population spoke English as a result of British colonization that ended in 1960.
The fact Nigerians speak English and this is to facilitate cultural and linguistic unity across diversity suggests Nigerians may be well suited for social networking. What do you think?
www.nigeriansocialnetwork.com We found this Nigeria based social network on Ning and think it looks great. We know some of you are members of that community, and hope you will share what you think of the site for the benefit of others here on Area Light. What do you think of this site and what other sites do you recommend we link?
Hopefully, this is a good way of showing Area Light features networking by geographic location and has a world focus. We are responsive to our community and think "where you are from" is a significant point everybody can relate to in one way or another. This is just one of the ways Area Light hopes to become a social network of choice. However, we do not consider ourselves exclusive. In fact, we are wide open to sharing about sites outside of this network.
Please feel free to join this community group and to help us build it for your enjoyment. For the project to really grow, it would be great if we could have some guest member administrators to help the group reach its full potential as an added-value to the Area Light community. Contact us if you are interested.
Area Light is so pleased to welcome a growing community of Nigerians to our network. Since so many of you have joined at once, we are going to invite you all to this area and conduct a group tour of Area Light- hopefully with your participation, enthusiasm, and for your enjoyment. We will do this by starting a discussion below in the forum. However, you are all welcome to initiate your own discussions. As we say, this community is what you make it...so make it great!
