I'm beginning an outreach project to businesses in Northern California. Chico, CA to start. The idea is to get these businesses interacting online. Area Light should serve that market with our geaographic networking feature. My goal for my community is multi-facetted. I'm hoping the community comes on line and the region develops a progressive reputation consistent with solutions to the challenges of the day. Since I'm personally driving this, NorCal has an opportunity to be the first literal online business community.

My vision reaches far beyond this. In order to fulfill Area Light's full potential, we're going to want other business communities to come online too. If my area misses the opportunity then so be it. Some area will and we'll be their to serve their interests in just the same way. I have a strategy for how to go about this I'm not fully making available to everyone's attention. I've dabbled a little in my outreach to the local community. I think the concept is a great solution but most business owners probably are not ready for it. I had in mind supporting those businesses who joined to look into what I was doing. However, the few sample promotions (basically door to door flyers) I tried yielded little response. I did have some great conversations and saw some wonderful storefronts and websites I want represented here. I can also easily think of ways each of these businesses could benefit from being on this site- and add value to this community. However, I think I just might have to spell out those ideas to each, and take some initiative in setting up links/ pics/ videos and such. I've got to start somewhere!

Anyways, I'm having fun with the Area Light Explorer group. I'm going to start including local businesses I run into on that group. Here, I'm going to break down the utility and concepts for organization these businesses could employ if they were to join. If they do not step in to take advantage of the solutions, then at least the plans will be laid out for others who are ready.
