Welcome to Area Light if you are new. I suppose my intended audience for this post is other network creators. I'm really not into all the selling out there. As far as I am concerned, I know what I want. It's only those things I am very happy to spend my money on. Just like most people, I want more money. So when I look at enterprising with a classical industrial spirit, I'm pretty much focused on what I can do to work for my greatest profit and benefit. Now that I've familiarized myself with social networking, I realize my preferences are probably not all that uncommon. It just seems most do not concentrate on the aspects I do. I am a modern business consultant.
I would make a point not to promote anything I offer on the basis of price. Now I know there are very strong companies out there such as Wal-Mart that thrive on price. As much as people want more money, they want to spend less. Now I think at some point I might sit down and negotiate my pricing with clients. They will probably be impressed with the value and excited to pay. So talking money is not the detractor for me. It is the anonymity of the sell I don't like. Put up a price and offer some product and service to those who are really not interested. Sure some people will continue to entertain a relationship, but I think something is lost. I believe there is an art to the work. Those who know don't resort to the matters of contemporary selling.
I believe you can talk business without beating around the bush. However, it should be cordial and intelligent conversation. Here is a standard for you... You encourage and help people to move forward on their own. You walk with them over time and be a voice of acknowledgement for them. You do this with what little time you can afford them. Then you wait for them to say, "I can't" before you say, "I can". All this requires is some forum of engagement. The rest should be natural. If someone is so impressed by what I can do, then they can ask to pay for my concentration and commitment to their challenges. I beleive in an honest day's wage for an honest day's work. I also believe in going so far above expectations without a hint of obligation. If people want more, I manage my capacities based on my own incentives.
So what can we talk about as business people and network creators? I would start with exploring new standards for the model of customer and provider. Perhaps we can study the transaction and maybe map out some step-by-step guidelines as a reference. I would think a lot is modifiable to each respective client. However, some things are virtually assured in this modern environment. One of the biggest challenges is getting people to come on board and actually want to talk. A lot will come. A lot less will participate. So one thing you can do is slow down the activity and make an effort to ensure what content is posted appears as real-time value to the next prospective member.
There has to be something of value to people in order for them to want to be around you. I beleive I can offer something considerable in my business intelligence to offer a crowd. I'm not interested in the least in superficial traffic. What you get is a real opportunity to discuss technical concepts about your business. Maybe you have a network, a site, or some other kind of storefront. How do you engage people in order to do business? I think if you follow my activity, you will notice the topic of transaction for fee practically never comes up. I believe the most I've done is point out premium services might become available, that I might enjoy site sponsors and advertising agreements for the sake of my athletic ambitions, and that I am developing a business to some day be a consultant.
Nothing but crickets. I'm not even sure if I've even actually engaged anyone directly on those subjects. Mostly posted in the discussion/ blog spaces. I can see a lot of business people sitting back and thinking there is no sustainable business model there. They are thinking you must agressively market and sell. However, in the long run I am betting I will do a lot more profitable business than them.
So let's talk business then.
Best,
