Let's get started!

1) Having established Area Light in design to support areas of interests from personal, professional, organizational, interest areas, and geographic areas- what is it all worth if no one joins and those who do are not interacting? We think we have created the right environment on the right platform, however this does little to engage people beyond suggesting they take the initiative. As a free service (created and staffed by a very busy college student nonetheless!) we cannot possibly offer our full attention to everybody. We can, however, offer some creative disruption to lack of activity by introducing groups, forums, and events that spark interest, make visiting the site worthwhile, and even interact with members at our discretion. All free of charge of course. Our CEO/ Imagineer has a propensity for coming up with concepts that are outside-the-box, creative, and otherwise unusual. While we have taken the lead in showing how the community can support conventional interests, we offer our disclaimer now for the crazy stuff he has us do! Hopefully, you can at least find the humor in what we do to stir things up, come up with excuses to engage people from different angles, and offer things in Area Light you are unlikely to find elsewhere. Enjoy!

2) As host to this community we will do all we can. However, it is our intention to support others in influencing the activity of the community. We suggest whatever you do is considerate of our other members- so please avoid activities that could potentially be considered annoying. As a service to our community, we are there for you to help walk you through the process of setting up your own forums, groups, and events. As an added-value, Area Light Member Services may sponsor, create, or otherwise endorse your activities so other members can be comforted in knowing the occasion or interaction will not be a waste of their time. The principle of interaction in this community is simply give and take- or the Golden Rule. If you want participation in your areas, then participate in other areas. If someone participates in your area, return the favor and show some interest by looking into them and engaging them on their subject matter. Where people do this, we expect the idea of giving more than you receive to turn back around to you several fold. Once you have explored our community, we recommend returning to our group, "Area Light Home" to discuss your experiences in the community and to communicate what you want to get out of the interaction. Area Light Member Services will be there to support you in making the most of this community. It is what you make of it and we are here to help.

3) Open yourself up to the community. Having an online presence is one thing. Having an online social presence is another. We highly encourage the use of blogs. You can focus on whatever subject matter you feel is appropriate. However, one thing we can all relate to is the perspective on the online social network end-user. We have done this on other sites and doubt the managers looked into our thoughts about what we were experiencing and wanted. Area Light Member Services frequently looks into member pages, groups, etc to evaluate participation and activity. If you address your subject matter regarding your experience in the community, we will interact with you and hopefully offer intelligent insights if not action in response. Establishing a common ground with others in your environment is just one skill you can learn to get better at interaction, networking, and conferencing.

4) Beyond strategies and skills, we think the modern environment affords end-users all kinds of opportunities to interact in different ways. We recommend looking into Skype and Microsoft Office Workspaces as a couple of suggestions for how to take your conferences outside of Area Light. Even better if you find ways to meet in person. We will be exploring various mediums and incorporating them into our business. We view the Ning platform and other tools from the perspective of how they support our networking goals. You might find us discussing these in our group, "The Next Big Ning" or on the CEO's commentary on the Area Light Blog. As a service to all our members, we are available to discuss matters of networking, interaction, and anything else that fits within the realm of conferencing- again, free of charge.
